There are condolences waiting approval on DOROTHY's Tribute wall

Dorothy Elizabeth Spriggs, 95, of Owings, MD departed this life on Sunday, March 13, 2011, at Calvert Memorial Hospital, Prince Frederick, Maryland. Dorothy was a mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother.
Dorothy was born December 8, 1915, in Drury, Maryland. She was the daughter of the late Susie (Owens) Whittington and the late Wesley Holt. She attended Anne Arundel County Public Schools and Shaw High School in Washington, DC. Dorothy was united in marriage to Morris John Goldberg Spriggs in August 1933. They raised their eight children on the farm.
Dorothy worked as a farmer for many years. After semi-retiring from farming, Dorothy began working for Dodge Park Apartments. She worked there for several years, after which Dorothy became employed at Chevron (a division of Standard Oil). She entered as an entry-level worker and she advanced to the level of lab technician. Dorothy worked approximately ten years with Chevron until her retirement.
Dorothy had a love for children which prompted her to become a foster parent for several children for many years. She parented children ranging in age from infants to teenagers. Her goal was always to give them a chance to have a better life.
Dorothy was a Premier Sports Parent. She was well known by the coaches and parents in the Calvert County Recreation Department and she was referred to as "Ms. Dorothy". Dorothy was still driving at age 93 to the local games. She constantly cheered on the sidelines, with the encouraging words "You Can Do It!"
Most important of all was Dorothy's love for God. Dorothy was a faithful member of Peter's United Methodist Church since 1935 and remained until her passing. On the day she joined Peter's Church she read 23 Psalms which became her favorite scripture. Dorothy served as a Communion Steward for many years and would prepare the Baptismal fount. She enjoyed standing in for many infants and little ones at their baptism. She could tell you many stories of her walk with the Lord. How good He is, Why we need to trust in Him and the importance of prayer. Her favorite hymns are "Precious Lord", "I'll Fly Away "and "Great Day". Dorothy's goal was always to make Heaven her home one day.
