Obituary for DORINDA MAGNOLIA FOOTE
Dorinda Magnolia Foote was born to the late Leslie and Alice Marie Jones on January 23, 1953 in Washington, DC. She departed this life peacefully on Sunday, February 12, 201 7, at The George Washington University Hospital after a brief illness.
Dorinda accepted Christ at a young age and was a lifelong member of Plum Point United Methodist Church.
Dorinda was educated in the Calvert County Public School system. As a young child, she attended Plum Point Elementary and later went on to graduate from Calvert High School in 1971. Dorinda is fondly remembered by her peers as one of the most popular and fashionable students in her graduating class. It was her love for beauty and fashion that fueled her aspiration of becoming a fashion model. One of Dorinda's fondest high-school memories was being crowned homecoming queen.
While attending Calvert High School, Dorinda met her husband Eugene V. Foote, Sr. From this union two sons were born, Von and Donte Foote. Motherhood was Dorinda's greatest joy, as she often admitted that she was guilty of spoiling her boys rotten from birth to adulthood. She was also a second mother to her nieces, nephews, and many children from the neighborhood (Buster, Troye, Damian, Jr., Shanda, Jermaine, Shante, Jason, and Nakida).
Dorinda was never averse to hard work. Throughout her life, she held various positions in the County, including The Calvert County Public School system, Tri-County Head Start, Calvert County Parks and Recreation, and the ARC of Southern Maryland.
In addition to her strong work ethic, Dorinda possessed many talents that she often used to bless others. She was known for her love of fashion. Dorinda never walked out of the house without being styled and accessorized from head to toe. She loved exhibiting different hairstyles and nail designs. Dorinda was also an accomplished seamstress and she often made outfits for herself, her family, and her friends. In addition to fashion, she also loved interior design and took immense pride in decorating her beautiful home. Of all of her talents, Dorinda's family and friends are most thankful for her hospitality. She loved cooking and often opened her home to anyone in the mood for a traditional Southern Maryland feast, which often consisted of pigs' feet, chitterlings, crab cakes, and her famous fried chicken.
She was preceded in death by her son, Donte Foote; parents Leslie and Alice Marie Jones; aunt, Geneva Coates; and in-laws, James and Mildred Foote.
Dorinda leaves to cherish her memories: husband of 45 years, Eugene V. Foote, Sr.; son, Eugene Von Foote, Jr. (Leticia); grandchildren, Devonte and Jayden Foote; great-nephew (grandson) Kweli Mackall who affectionately referred to her as "Nana"; step grandchildren , Tobias Young, Carl Fields, Jr., Jabriel, Farah, and Hasan Salam; brothers, Leslie, Jr., Ronald Sr. (Edith), George "Ricky" (Dolly), and Todd Jones; sister, Emma Claggett; uncles, Vernon "Butch", Sr., Carroll, and George Jones; close relatives, Sherman Coates, Sidney and Cynthia Jones, Novena Gross, Robin Holland, Sidney "Sonny" Jones, Rosalind Daughety, Patty Jones, Gwen Jones, and Barbara Kearney; brothers-in-law, James, William (Janice), Stevenson (Shirley), and John Foote (Erna); sisters-in-law, Anne Mackall, Martha Mackall, Goldie Harrod (Harry), Mildred Ward (Eugene), Jaqueline Foote, Marilyn Jones (Ricky), and Susan Spriggs (Michael); devoted friends, Alberta Contee, Paulette Gray, Carolyn Hall, Kathy Parker, and Clyde Claggett; godchildren, Jermaine, Jason, Jolishia, and Christina; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
