Obituary for DONNA IDA HARROD
A cheerful smile is missing. Loving hands are resting. Bright eyes have closed. On August 25, 2015 God looked upon His weary child, Donna Ida Harrod (affectionately known as Donnae or Donette), and called her home. Although we no longer see her smile or feel her hands or capture the essence of her eyes, her spirit lives on.
Donna was born on January 29, 1957 to the late James Owen Holland and Bertha Harrod Holland. A native of Calvert County, she attended Calvert County Public Schools. Donna frequently visited church with family and friends and most often she would visit St. Edmond’s United Methodist Church. Donna became a member of St. Edmond’s United Methodist Church in 2012. When Rolands of Chesapeake Station opened in 1990 , Donna became an employee. This would be her one and only job. She was a faithful worker; she never wanted to call out. Donna met a lot of people who grew to love her. On any given day you would find her at the end of the table in the deli section making her famous homemade potato salad and cole slaw. Many people visited Rolands just for the potato salad and slaw.
Donna had a magnetic personality that drew you into her space. To know her is to love her. She especially loved her family. She would call her special aunt Dorothy everyday. She would also call her sisters Rose, Alice, and Charlene everyday. She would also spend hours on the phone with her (2) two daughters Pooh and Melvina until she would fall asleep. You would often hear her saying her favorite saying “Now Look!”
Donna enjoyed listening to music and Dancing. Everytime she would ride down 260 she requested to ride pass the Boardwalk in North Beach. She would never leave home without her face pad, wash cloth, and a bottle of water. She would never leave home without them.
Donna leaves to cherish her memories her mother, Bertha Harrod;3 children, Calvin “Moochie” Jones, Melvina Hurley, and Alikia “ Pooh” Jones; 4 grandchildren; Shakia Jones, Landin Johnson, Deja Greenfield, and Taliyah Gross; 6 sisters, Charlene Claggett, Rose Holland, Alice Hurley, Margaret Landers, Bertina Mackall and Virginia Thomas; 3 brothers, James Holland, Larry Harrod, and Leroy Holland; 6 sister-in-laws Cotora Holland, Marthalene Holland, Mary Holland, Glenda Wallace, Inez Holland, and Dorothy Holland; 3 brother-in-laws, William “Duck” Thomas, Fredrick Hawkins Sr., and John Claggett; a special friend “Wank Wank” and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Donna was proceeded in death by her father; James Owen Holland, sisters; Madeline and Elizabeth Jones, Betty Ann Hawkins, Gladys Jennifer, Marie Thomas, brothers; Oscar Holland, Stanley Holland, William Wallace and Oliver Holland.
