GRIEF & HEALING
affirmations to uplift & help you through
each stage of the grieving process.
Donald Jay Stratton was born in Washington, D.C. on October 6, 1956 and passed peacefully on Wednesday, December 5, 2018. He was the third son and fifth child of his loving and Christian parents, Walter R. Stratton, Jr. and Elsie L. Hoaney Stratton (both deceased). Donald had six brothers and sisters: Robert L. Stratton, Walter R. Stratton, Jr. (deceased), Glenda M. Stratton, Dr. Cathy A. Stratton Sibert, David A. Stratton (deceased), and Marilyn A. Stratton Maxfield.
Donald married the love of his life, Sharon Stratton, on June 25, 1994. Donald simply loved
Sharon. Together for a total of 40 years and married for the last 24 years, they were
inseparable. While Donald experienced serious health challenges over the past 13 years, he
never gave up. As a man, committed husband and Christian, Donald gave his all to wife until the end of his life.
Donald was formally educated in the District of Columbia Public School System (Anne Beers
Elementary School, Sousa Jr. High School, and Chamberlain Vocational High School (1974) where he majored in offset lithography). He started his career as a press operator and progressed to a highly demanding management position as Print Buyer, overseeing the print purchasing operation for George Washington University. In addition, his significant training, knowledge, and experience in digital printing, graphic design, and IT positioned him to deliver printing services to private clients and serve as the Vice President of PrintTek Solutions, LLC (a company owned by his oldest brother).
The foundation of Donald's life was his love of Jesus Christ. As a child, he attended the family
church, John Stewart Memorial United Methodist Church, which eventually merged with Lincoln Park United Methodist Church. As an adult, Donald followed his father's lead and joined Second Baptist Church Southwest of Washington D.C. where he began singing with his father for the Lord in the Male Choir. Upon relocating their home to St. Mary's County, Donald and Sharon found their spiritual home and joined Bethel Way of the Cross Church where he became a devoted member of the Brotherhood Choir.
Donald leaves behind his wife, Sharon Stratton, four siblings: Robert Stratton (Carolyn), Glenda Stratton, Dr. Cathy Stratton Sibert, and Marilyn Stratton Maxfield; aunt, Helen Minor;
stepmother, Deaconess Mary Helen Stratton; four step-siblings: Walter McLaurin, Jerome
McLaurin (Donna) and JoAnn Nicholson (Maurice); sister-in-law Easter McCrory; two nephews: Anthony Stratton, Brian Stratton (Monica), two nieces: Robin Booker (David), Sabrina Maxfield; three nieces-in-law: Tiajuana Pittman, Darlene McCray, and Arlene McCray; two great-nephews: Brian Stratton II, Markel Maxfield; four great-nieces: Madisyn Stratton, Aleecia Stratton, Mia Booker, and Ari Booker; three nephews-in-law: Anthony Wheeler, Jose Wheeler, and Andre Bullock; a large extended family, many friends and his beloved Braxton (his companion dog).
