Obituary for DAVID GREGORY THOMAS
David Gregory Thomas was born on December 1, 1950 in Washington, D.C. to the late David H. and Edna Mildred Gray Thomas of Washington, D.C. and nurtured by the late Percy and Ida Hamilton of Owings, MD. He departed this life on October 25, 2016 at Future Care Chesapeake in Arnold, MD after almost a year of failing health.

David attended the Calvert County Public School System and graduated from Calvert Senior High School.

He was drafted into the Army but after a short stay he was honorable discharge to return home to care for his grandmother, Ida Hamilton, who at that time was an elderly widow.

David was raised on a farm on Skinners Turn Road and wasn’t afraid of hard work. He had a soft spot for John Deere Tractors. He was employed by B. Frank Joy until his health began to fail and he could no longer do his job.

David enjoyed working on vehicles, it is said he was a pretty good auto mechanic. He enjoyed watching the old Westerns on TV, listening to music from the 60s and 70s. Enjoyed traveling with his cousin Englis Gray to watch trains, farming with his cousin George McCann, hanging out with his buddy John Russell Hall doing whatever it would be they decided to do. He enjoyed hanging out with his friends from his childhood and just having fun.

David and his younger cousin David had fun joking about how young David had better be the “head of the household and keep his wife in check.” It would be so funny hearing the two of them going back and forth about this issue.

Gregory, as we called him, became like an uncle to Beryle and Russell’s family. Whenever he came to visit they knew they had to turn to the television to the Western station on so he could get in his favorite seat to sleep watch his shows.

Whenever he was asked something the answer would be “I guess”, and when things got a little exciting he would say, “Oh boy!”

David cherished the friendships he had with all of his friends. When we visited, he would ask about them and want to know when we last saw anyone of them. It made him feel good when any of his friends found the time in their busy schedules to come by and see him. He especially talked about the people at the dialysis center in Prince Frederick.

David leaves a nephew, Tyrone Thomas, of whom he was very proud of. It made his day when he received call from him or a visit; an uncle Morris E. Thomas of Washington, D.C.; three aunts, Ruth Lockett of Odenton, MD, Colleen Thomas of Springdale, MD, and Erna D. Thomas of Washington, D.C. host of cousins and friends.
