Obituary for DARRICK G. SMITH
Darrick G. Smith was born on May 20, 1985, in Prince Frederick, Maryland to the late Katherine Sollers Hicks and Everett Smith. His stepfather Raymond Hicks raised him along with his mother Katherine Sollers Hicks. He was coined "Smith and Smithers" by his family and friends. On Wednesday, December 14, 2016, God called him home unexpectedly, at the tender age of 31.
Darrick was educated in the Calvert County Public School system and graduated from Patuxent High School in June 2003. Darrick was a good student who enjoyed the many school friends and the varied activities. During his time in school, Darrick met and retained many friends that remained close to him.
After graduating from high school, Darrick decided to take some time away from pursing higher education, and sought full-time employment. Darrick worked various jobs. He was a hard worker, who worked at a myriad of establishments in Calvert County. He was admired and respected by his colleagues for his charming personality, hard work, and dedication.
Throughout his life, Darrick spent a lot of quality time with his stepfather, Raymond Hicks. Darrick also enjoyed spending time with his niece, Ebony Janey and nephews Davon Jones and Joshua Janey. He enjoyed taking them to the pool and teaching them about life lessons.
Darrick developed a close brotherhood with his cousins Delonte, Deandre, and Timothy Rawlings. In his later years, Darrick decided to take on the last name of Rawlings. Darrick enjoyed writing music and poetry, reading books about the hidden history of the past, dancing, playing basketball, video games, and family gatherings. During his spare time, Darrick also enjoyed watching Bruce Lee movies.
Darrick had a pleasant personality and a love for people. He was a good friend to many and had a heart of gold. He had a wonderful caring and charming personality and was always willing to lend a hand. His candid smile, and laid-back disposition will surely be missed. Darrick's motto was to live life by great morals and respect. Darrick was a spiritual man who loved the Lord. His heart was always open to the Word of God and he continued to search for the truth. Darrick was loved and appreciated by his family and many friends. As a result of his generous spirit and pleasant personality, many loved him. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.
Preceding him in death is his loving mother; Katherine Sollers Hicks; three sisters, Ebony Hawkins Janey, Petuia Smith, and Contreia (Trina) Smith; Grandparents, Aaron and Sarah Sollers, Benjamin (Kiddo) and Caroline Smith.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his father; Everett Smith, loving stepfather; Raymond Hicks, niece; Ebony Janey, two nephews; Davon Jones and Joshua Janey, his grandmother; Violette Brooks, his godmother; Donna Watts Brown, two sisters; Demetrice Smith and Ingrid Washington (Eugene), four brothers; Victor Smith (lsaphine), Lamont Smith (Nakeia), Chester Pinkney Sr., Justin Smith, and a host of devoted aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Darrick is gone from our presence; but will forever be in our hearts.
