Obituary for CRYSTAL DARLENE JOHNSON

Crystal Darlene Johnson, the youngest daughter to the late James Johnson, Sr., and Amelia Gantt Johnson, was born October 8, 1966 in Calvert County, Maryland. Crystal transitioned from this life, peacefully on Sunday, August 25, 2019.

“Chrissy or boo,” as she was affectionately known to her family and friends, graduated from Calvert High School class of 1986. She was the birth mother to two of three children, two grandchildren and two godsons. Chrissy gave her life to Christ and was an active, faithful member of Healing & Deliverance Community Experience of the Holy Spirit under the leadership of Prophet Apostle Aniachi C. Belu-John.

“Chrissy” worked as a cook at the BG&E power plant in Lusby, Maryland for over 22 years. While working at the power plant Chrissy became an entrepreneur. After coming home from her full-time job, you would find her selling, sodas and candy out of her car trunk. She would even place five candy bars in her daughter’s (Ternice) book bag to sell while at school. The Mom & Pop store had nothing on Chrissy when it came to selling candy and sometimes Ice Cream. You name it, Chrissy had it. She was all about making an honest living. Every now and then she would even let you get something on credit, and sometimes with interest. You best believe you were going to pay her on the date you agreed upon. In 2010 Chrissy accepted a position working for the Food and Nutrition Services Department at Calvert Memorial Hospital as a Tray Hostess. Her excellent customer services skills quickly lead her to be moved into the cafeteria area. She was recently promoted to a lead position in the Calvert Café’. Her promotion awarded her a plaque that hangs on the wall at the hospital, on the main level, near the elevators. Chrissy remained a dedicated worker until receiving her heavenly wings. Chrissy wanted nothing more than to provide for her family. As a single mom she managed to keep a roof over their heads, a car to get to and from, along with all the other necessities needed to keep them on top of things. You never heard her complain about raising her children or helping others raise theirs. She did it diligently and with such grace as she walked out on faith. Chrissy managed to get her children through high school, college and/or trade school and in doing so, her hard work ethics was instilled within them. Chrissy enjoyed talking, laughing, and dancing. She was also known for her flirtatious ways that would have you laughing to tears. While everyone would be getting excited for the up and coming football season, Chrissy would be getting excited to see all the new commercials. She would imitate her favorites, as if she produced them herself. Chrissy was a joy to be around. She was one of the biggest jokesters you have ever seen. Despite all the fun and foolery, what stood out most about Chrissy was her faith and love for God. Throughout her four-year cancer battle; Chrissy remained faithful to God, to her family and to her church family. Chrissy was full of life, love and laughter until her passing. She will forever be remembered for her love of people and her strength to carry on.

“Chrissy” was preceded in death by her father, James Johnson Sr.; maternal grandparents, Warren and Charlotte Gantt; paternal grandparents: Albert and Ernestine Johnson; sister, Ernestine Johnson Sewell; nephew, Ray “Ray Ray” Johnson Jr. and godson; Rodney “Rudy” Gray Jr.

“Chrissy” leaves to cherish her fond memories: her children: Ternice Gray, Joseph “Jay” Butler (Keisha); and Brittany Green; her mother, Amelia Johnson; grandchildren: Devin and Shaniyah Thomas ;sisters: Laverne Stewart (Sherman), Victoria, Frances, Casandra, and Wendy Johnson; brothers: Thomas Broome (Leslie), James Johnson, Jr., Ray Johnson, Sr. (Carita) and William Johnson (Sharron); special friend, Rodney Brantley; close friend; Faye Scott; godson, Josh Willett and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
