Obituary for CHARLES EVERETT GANTT, SR.

Charles Everett Gantt, Sr., son of the late Alexander and Mary Virginia Gantt was born May 18, 1945, in Prince Frederick, Maryland. After a lengthy illness, he departed this life October 17, 2013, at Charles County Hospice House in Waldorf, MD. He was the tenth of thirteen children (four preceded him in death, Elizabeth Haley, Cephas, Harry and Abraham Gantt).

Charles was educated in Calvert County public schools. Upon completion, he enlisted in the United States Army where he served as a communication specialist for two years. Charles lived in Oxnard, California for a number of years and worked at Teledyne Corporation in Newberry Park, CA. Upon returning to Maryland, he was employed at Calvert Memorial Hospital in Prince Frederick, MD. Lastly, he was employed with the Keller Bus Service in Hughesville, Maryland as a commuter bus driver from Prince Frederick to Washington, DC and return. He loved the passengers that rode his bus and they loved him. Charles had a charming personality and was loved by all whom met him. His charisma was exceptional and made everyone feel like they were someone special. Due to his professionalism he was frequently requested for out-of-town trips. In 2006, he was recognized by "News Channel 4 as the morning person" for his outstanding service.

Charles was reared in a loving, Christian home where he was taught the importance of knowing and serving God. At an early age, he accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his Savior and vowed to serve Him all his life.

Charles was married to the late Pearl Cureton Gantt; from that union, seven children were born of whom three preceded his death (Rueben, Keith and Aaron). After the death of Pearl, with gratitude, Charles accredited the maternal Grandmother Gerolean Wheeler and Aunts Patricia and Inita for being very instrumental in helping to rear his children. Charles loved them dearly and they will forever love and cherish him.

Charles remarried Linda Mackall on August 16, 2002, and they lived in Waldorf, MD until his demise. After marriage, he joined the Mount Gethsemane Holiness Church under the leadership of Bishop Robert D. Watts. They talked and prayed together often. He loved the Lord, his pastor and church family.

He took pleasure in celebrating others. He often sent requests to WHUR radio station to acknowledge special occasions. Also, he loved to send greeting cards to his loved ones.

He leaves to cherish his memory: a loving wife, Linda; five children, Charles Gantt Jr. (LaShawn), Tawanna Nailing (Darryl); Keisha Gantt, Ebony Burnette (Greg) and Darryl Adams; eight sisters, Ella Mae Gross, Ruth Reynolds, Theresa Miles (Emile), Helen Commodore (Oscar), Margaret Chase, Edith Commodore (Harry), Vivian Somerville (Charles), and Marcellas Ingram; 22 grandchildren and 2 great-grand children; in-laws, Clarence and Virginia Mackall; five sisters-in-law; six brothers-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
