Obituary for CARLOS ROOSEVELT MACKALL

Carlos Roosevelt Mackall was born on September 27, 1955, to Audrey and the late Roosevelt Columbus Mackall.

On Monday July 14, 2014, Carlos departed this life at Calvert Memorial Hospital.

Carlos was the third of eight children and the oldest son.

He received his education from the public schools of Calvert County, graduating from Calvert High School in 1973. Later he served a short stent with the National Guard. Carlos worked construction and was an all-around handyman.

He loved his family and most especially his mother. She was truly the most important person in his life. His sisters and brothers would all agree that he knew their mother better than any of them. He knew her favorite foods and snacks. He knew what she liked to read and what she liked to watch on TV. He loved cooking and he prepared meals for her every day.

Thoughtful, respectful, honest, trustworthy and kind. These are a few words that describe Carlos. Known to his family as "Big Bubba" and to many of his friends as "Santana".

"Big Bubba" had many hobbies. He loved to read and enjoy everything from newspapers, magazines and novels. He loved music and was very knowledgeable about R&B, Gospel, Jazz, Rock & Roll, and Rap. He could name any song, tell you the year it was released, the artist and name the members in the band. He amazed people with his precise details when it came to cars. He knew every make and model. He was blessed with a photographic memory. He liked TV game shows like Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. With his sharp intellect, many of the answers before the contestant. Before Google he was our human dictionary/encyclopedia.

Carlos enjoyed fashions. In the 70's and 80's his younger brothers looked to him as the fashion trendsetter. While he was at work they would raid his closet without his knowledge. They would wear his "cool clothes" to school and quickly return them to his closet before he got home from work. Carlos loved collecting caps, and watching sports. He always rooted for the home team. The Red Skins, the Orioles and the Wizards.

"Big Bubba" favorite hymn was "God can work it out"

From 1977 to 1985, he was married to Phyllis Henson Young and from this union they had two children Chanelle and Carlos (Corey).

He leaves to celebrate and cherish his memories: his mother, Audrey Mackall of Huntingtown, Md.; two children, Chanelle Perry of Mitchellville, Md. and Carlos Corey Mackall, of Delaware; three grandchildren, Ahmad Perry, Carlos Mackall II and Zaire Mackall; one son-in-law, Stephen Perry, of Mitchellville, Md.; two sisters, Cynthia Jones and Deborah Parran; three brothers, Sherwood, Kevin, and Nathan Mackall, all of Huntingtown, MD; two brothers-in-law, Cordell Jones and Wilson Parran; two sisters-in-law, Judy Mackall and Dolise Mackall of Huntingtown, MD; one uncle, Robert (Bobby) Coby of Alexandria, Virginia. Preceding him in death were his father, Roosevelt Mackall and two brothers, Ferland and Barry Mackall.
