Obituary for Blanche Elizabeth Gough Foote

Blanche Elizabeth Gough-Foote, 87, of Lusby, MD, also known as Nanny, Granny, and Grandma, died Saturday, June 21, 2008 at Calvert Memorial Hospital.She was born Thursday, November 4, 1920 in Calvert County, MD to the late John Parran Gough and the late Emily Jane Bishop-Gough.  She received her education from the Calvert County Public Schools. Blanche was united in holy matrimony to the late Leonard "Pop-Pop" Foote.  She was baptized in Jesus' name at Bethel Way of the Cross Church and then relocated to become a faithful member of Mt. Gethsemane Holiness Church with her late brother Albert, where she became a missionary.  She loved the voices of Mother Alice Plater, Evangelist Dottie Stewart, and Emma Walls singing praises to the Lord.  Granny worked over 65 years as an oyster shucker.  She was her own carpenter and did upholstery work with her late brother, Albert Gough.  She was a fulltime mother raising an unbelievable amount of grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.  Her home was always welcome to anyone that needed a place to stay, food to eat, or just someone to care for them.  She was known for giving out nicknames for family members and especially her grandchildren.Blanche enjoyed cooking large meals to anyone that was hungry. She spread her love through her cooking, especially crab cakes, sweet potato pies, crab soups, rice pudding, gingerbread, white cake sauce, and home made root beer.    She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Foote; two daughters, Floramae "Bootsie" Weems  and Joyce Weems-Commodore; grandsons, Roman "Pow Wow" Gantt, Jr. and Craig "Boobie" Gantt ; great-grandson, Alphonso "Grandpa" Johnson ; great-great grandson, Maurien Gantt; three sisters, Ethel Chase, Cornelia, and Ida Gough; eight brothers, Bennie, Thomas, Joseph, Calvin, Burnes, John, Melvin, and Albert Gough and two sons-in-law, Roman Gantt, Sr. and Leroy Commodore. Surviving are two daughters, Emily Gantt and Carolyn Dummoodie; a son, Elwood "Bobby" Dent; two devoted grandchildren, Aretha "Tackie" Walls and Bryan "Loomie/Tic" Carroll; a very devoted great granddaughter, Noreal "Wellie" Weems; two adopted daughters, Gertrude "Gerdy" Willett and Elizabeth "Doll" Brooks; twenty-one grandchildren, forty-one great grandchildren, twenty-eight great-great grandchildren; five sisters-in-law, Virginia and Drusilla Gough, Eliza, Thelma, and Ruth Foote; two brothers-in-law, Glenn and Phillip Foote; two Goddaughters, Angel Brooks and Alease Butler; four special cousins, Emily Bishop, Beuna Weems, Annie Louise Jefferson, and Erma Watts; a beautiful best friend, Mother Alice Plater; six special friends, Rachel Diggs, Lisa Watts, Grace Walls, Mable Clark, Margaret White, and Mrs. Moore, as well as a huge number of nieces, nephews, cousins and friend
