Archie Wendell Johnson, Sr., 65 of Port Republic, MD
Archie Wendell Johnson, Sr., died Thursday, December 27, 2007 at his residence.  Archie W. Johnson Sr., affectionately known to many as Pop, peacefully departed this life after a vigorous fight with cancer.  He was born on July 29, 1942 to the late Herbert and Verna Johnson.  He was joined in marriage to Regina P. Brown on November 23, 1968.  From this union they raised two sons Tim and Archie Johnson Jr.  In his early age, Pop attended and joined St. Johns U.M.C.  He was educated in Calvert County Public Schools.  He graduated from W. Sampson Brooks High School in 1960.  He worked many tireless years as a carpenter for Local 74.  After his retirement from the local, he worked for 15 years, as a delivery man for Sears. Pop was loved and respected by all who knew him.  Pop was always a giver, expecting nothing in return.  He was a kind man and a friend to all.  He and his nephew Johnny had a special bond.  Even though they were close in age, Pop thought of him as a son.   Some of his favorite past-times were:  gardening, doing word searches and crossword puzzles, watching westerns (his favorite being Gunsmoke) and playing computer games.  Pop was a jack of all trades.  He was mechanically incline and an expert at woodworking.  He was a very ingenious man.  He was always inventing new gadgets to make work easier.  Pop spent hours shooting the breeze with the guys down at the shed.   Pop was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Verna; brothers: Amos and Thomas Johnson and sister, Susie Porch; and special friends:  Peter Banister, Clarence Jr and Leroy Commodore, James Son Bishop and Eugene Jabby Weems. He leaves to mourn a loving and devoted wife, Regina and sons, Tim and Archie Jr Fireball daughter-in-law: Lillian Johnson; grandchildren:  Anthony Dukes, Eric Kamau, Timothy Johnson Jr.;   four brothers:  Herbert (Amanda), Louis (Juanetta), Gerald, Gregory (Sheila) and two sisters:  Vera Gray and Joyce Patterson; four brother-in-laws:  Edward Porch, Levi Herbert (Anne), Donald Brown (Lucille), Austin Brown and six sister-in-laws: Lucy Kent, Virginia Burroughs, Dorothy Purnell, Clarisa Brooks (Douglas), Nellie Holland and Paula Taylor (Warren); three uncles:  Phillip Foote (Ruth), Archie Foote (Thelma), Glen Foote (Eliza); one aunt:  Collette Turner; one godson: Vashon Bishop; special friends:  Donald Brown, Michael & Tony Johnson and Stewart Weems and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Pallbearers were Vashon Bishop, John "Jay" Gaines, Robert "Junebug" Gray, Wayne Gross, Ellsworth "Johnny" Johnson, and Barry Porch.Honorary Pallbearers were Austin Brown, Donald Brown, Bob Earl Janey, Herbert E. Johnson, Warren Taylor, and Stewart Weems
