Obituary for Alice Marie Brooks

Alice Marie Brooks, 83 of Huntingtown, MD, died Wednesday, June 11, 2008 at the home of her daughter, Alice Sutton.She was born Tuesday, July 8, 1924 in Prince Frederick, MD to the late Thurn Thomas and the late Mosalena Janey Thomas.  Alice was united in marriage to the late Wilson "Gourley" Brooks, Sr. in 1948.  From this union they raised seven children.  Louis, Arthur, Marylou, Dorothy, Alice, Diane, and Wilson, Jr.Alice labored hard as a domestic worker from the age of 12 until her health began to fail her just a few years ago.Alice had a great love for the Lord.  She would sometimes pray and sing Hymns all night.Alice really enjoyed the company of Brother William Brown.  William would come by to bring her gospel tapes, read scriptures, and to pray with her.  She looked forward to his visits.Each day Alice would eagerly await calls from Brother Brooke Reynolds, who was a faithful prayer partner.  She also looked forward to prayer with Brother Alnutt Chase, Sr., and Sister Arnella Stepney.Alice had a special 'LOVE' for her grandchildren.  Once her vision begain to fail, she would just want to touch each of them.Alice was preceded in death by one daughter, Marylou Gross, son-in-law, Kenneth Sutton, two grandchildren, Sheila Jones and Anthony Hurley, Sr., and one great-grandson, Louis Allen Gross, III. Alice leaves to cherish her memory three sons, Louis Gross, Arthur Gross, Jr., and Wilson Brooks, Jr.; three daughters, Dorothy Jones, Alice Sutton, and Diane Fenwick; adopted son, Anthony "Duke" Hurley, Jr.; two sons-in-law, James Jones and Vincent Fenwick; two daughters-in-law, Anna Gross and Clarice Gross; three sisters, Mildred Harmon, Mary White, and Virginia Gough; two devoted sisters-in-law, Margie Brooks and Bertie Purvey; twenty-two grandchildren; forty-seven great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a devoted family friend, Patricia "Pat" Brooks and a host of other relatives and friends.Funeral services were held at Calvert Lighthouse Tabernacle, Wednesday, June 18, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor William Patton officiating.
