Obituary for ANNIE VIRGINIA BROOKS
Annie Virginia Kyler Brooks, daughter of the late Ford Kyler and Sarah Rebecca Brown was born July 8, 1929 in Huntingtown, Maryland. She was united in holy matrimony to John Robert Brooks, Sr., on January 31, 1946. This union was blessed with fifteen children. She departed this life on Tuesday, April 30, 2019 at her daughter's home in Huntingtown, Maryland.
Annie was a lifelong resident of Calvert County and attended the public-school system. For many years Annie worked as a traveling saleswoman. She sold many Furst McNess products to her customers throughout the county. Annie worked for the Gray, May and Zmurkl families for many years.
At an early age she professed her faith in Jesus Christ and joined Patuxent United Methodist Church where she was a dedicated member. At Patuxent Church, she served faithfully as a Sunday School teacher, Chairperson of the Administrative Council, Chairperson of the Finance Committee, and a member of the Senior Choir. You could always depend on Annie to help with anything that needed to be done.
Annie's favorite past times were cooking, reading, going to yard sales (with Bert, Mrs. Lester and Jean) and she enjoyed watching the grandchildren and great grandchildren play. Annie carried a book with her most of the time. While waiting in line at the grocery store she would often pull out a book to read. There were times when she propped a book on the windowsill in order to read while she washed the dishes. Annie was a devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. She loved everyone! There was always an open seat at the table and a place to stay for those who were in need.
Annie was preceded in death by her husband John Brooks Sr., father: Ford Kyler, mother: Sarah Rebecca Brown, stepfather: William McKinley Brown, brother: William Kyler Sr., three sons: Alexander, Charles and Terry Sr., and brother in law, Carlton Chambers.
Annie leaves to cherish her memories: children; John Jr (Gertie), Sara Jones (Crispin Sr.), Ford (Jurileen), Stewart (Gwen), Dwight (Pandora), Richard, Homer (Betty), Douglas (Cheryl), Mason (Sharon), William, McKinley and Dwayne (Laverne); sister; Marquerite Brown Chambers; daughter in law, Lisa Brooks; thirty-nine grandchildren, sixteen greats grandchildren, special friends; Bill and Georgia Washington, Minnie Stepney, Juanita Mackall, Martha Mackall, Tom and Jacqueline Zmurkl and a host of other relatives and friends.
