Obituary for ANNIE ELIZABETH JEFFERSON
Annie Elizabeth Simmons was born on August 9, 1932. She was the third of nine children born to the late Edward and Gertrude Simmons. She was born in Calvert County, Maryland. Annie departed this life on Thursday, December 7th at the Calvert County Nursing Center in Prince Frederick, MD. She peacefully transitioned from this life with her oldest living son by her side singing "Where Can I Go But to the Lord."
Annie received her education through the Calvert County Public School System. She married in 1947 and from that union she was blessed with three sons: Gerald, Caroll, and Vernell Spriggs.
Annie was a homemaker, school bus driver and home health assistant. She always focused on the care of others, and Annie loved to cook for her family - her specialties were crab cakes, potato salad and sweet potato pie.
Annie loved her natural family and her spiritual family. She attended Bethel Way of the Cross Church in Huntingtown, Maryland for over 40 years. She was baptized in Jesus name by the late Bishop Jacob A. Green and later received the precious gift of the Holy Ghost according to Acts 2:38. In 19.95, she transferred her membership to Mt. Gethsemane Holiness Church in support of her son, Elder Caroll H. Spriggs, Sr. and Bishop Robert Watts.
When the doors of Philadelphia Open Door Redeemed Apostolic Church of Christ opened, she continued her walk with Christ there under the leadership of her Son.
Annie served in many church ministries over the years: Sunday school teacher; youth choir leader, transportation committee, nurse's aide, and she had a passion for the children of the church. She faithfully served as a Door Keeper in the House of the Lord, always greeting the worshipers with a warm smile. She was known to always dress fashionably and was a class act.
Annie was preceded in death by her parents Edward and Gertrude Simmons, her beloved son Gerald E. Spriggs, two sisters Margaret and Doris, and one brother Thomas.
She leaves to cherish her memories two sons - Elder Caroll H. Spriggs Sr. (Gloria) and Min.Vernell V. Spriggs Sr. (Tyrra); three sisters, Eather, Geraldine and Ella; two brothers, James and Jacob; nine grandchildren, Ephonia, Vernell Jr., Caroll Jr., Lekeshia, Casaundra, Chanel, Mia, Chester, and Ebony; ten great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and a host of friends and neighbors.
Annie was a mother and friend to many, Sis. Debbie Harris, Mother Evelyn King, and Deacon Herbert Contee would be a few of her many special friends.
