Obituary for AMANDA M. JONES
The Lord called Amanda Mae Jones home on Monday, October 19, 2015 in Upper Marlboro, Maryland. The Lord said "Be faithful unto death, and I will give you the CROWN OF LIFE". Revelation 2:10.
Amanda the oldest of three children, born to the late John and Shirley Mackall was born on October 11, 1959 in Calvert County, Maryland. At an early age, she realized that religion was to play a major part in her life. In 1974 she joined Calvary United Holiness Church where she was baptized and filled with the Holy Spirit. As a member of Calvary she served by lending her voice to the choirs where she would often sing lead. Upon her move to Upper Marlboro, Maryland she visited various churches throughout the metropolitan area for several years thereafter.
Amanda received her education in the Calvert County Public School System where she always excelled in academics. After graduating from Northern High School in 1976, she immediately went to work for the Federal Bureau of Investigation "FBI" were she remained for 14 years.
Amanda entered into holy matrimony with Charles Odell Smith in 1984 and through their union two children were born; Myisha Odelle Smith and Charles Odell Smith III.
After the birth of her second child, in 1990 Amanda left the FBI in pursuit of her true passion caring for and nurturing children. That same year she opened her own daycare and was quickly recognized as an extraordinary caregiver with an imagination out of this world. She was a crafty and creative provider and had a knack for showing whomever she came into contact with unequivocal love and affection. She made a huge impact on every child she cared for throughout her 25 years of providing services; so much so that they brought their children to her when they became parents. There was never any question of her devotion to children; she loved listening to them, talking to them, dancing and singing with them, which made her one of the most uniquely successful and sought after providers in her area.
Amanda was modestly a fashionista whose clothes, shoes and hair were always nicely put together. She always had a kind word or uplifting comment to go along with her sunny disposition. She loved to have a good time dancing and singing especially gospels, but her true passion was spending time with her family and friends. However, her whole world was turned upside down and her faith was severely tested, with the tragic loss of her only son Charles in 201l. Although humbly she remained grounded in her FAITH in God; the light in her eyes dimmed a little afterwards. Her sparkle returned with the arrival of her only granddaughter Kaelyn whom she spoiled and loved in equal measures. The special bond between the two was nothing short of amazing; she lit up whenever KK said Grammy.
Her legacy is one of balance; the perfect combination of resilience and humility. Amanda was a compassionate and selfless person whose transparent disposition revealed that even at her spiritual worst her "LOVE of LIFE" showed in everything she touched. Her loving spirit was evident and legendary as seen with her family and friends, the kids she cared for, her home and garden, and the figurines she painted; her bright smile and uplifting personality will truly be missed by all who knew and loved her. "SHE EARNED HER CROWN".
Left to cherish those precious memories are her daughter, Myisha Golway; son-in-law, Bryan Golway; grand-daughter, Kaelyn Golway; brother, Tracey Mackall; sister, Tonya Jones; brother-in-law, Jeff Jones; nieces and nephews, Teffren Jones, Teairra Jones, Terenity Jones, Trenstin Jones; step-children, Andre Smith, Michelle Smith-Wilson, Tamar Smith and Jade Jones; godchildren, Caden and Akya Tyson; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, family and friends. Amanda is preceded in death by her son, Charles Odell Smith III and her nephew Tereard Jones.
